Maximiliano: Hello guys. Uh, welcome back to Beyond the Horizon podcast. Uh, thank you very much for listening again uh for the Well, I don't know. Well, anyways, um, thank you very much. I'm just here uh with our new guest. Uh, so yes, Zack.
Zac: Zack. Yeah.
Maximiliano: Who are you?
Zac: Uh, what do you want to know?
Maximiliano: Yeah, it's a good point. Ask as in uh if somebody if a mate would like or somebody would like come up in a bar.
Zac: Okay.
Maximiliano: And say, um, hello, I'm I'm Max.

Maximiliano: Who are you?
Zac: Uh, Zach.
Maximiliano: Okay. What do you do? What's What's your
Zac: What do I do?
Maximiliano: What have you done is I don't know. Just like tell something a little bit about yourself. Uh, I'm 20. I'm from South Deon. I'm currently in Bristol studying.
Zac: I don't know where South Deon doesn't matter.
Maximiliano: Have you ever been?
Zac: No.
Maximiliano: No.
Zac: What? What?
Maximiliano: South Deon? I don't know where it is, mate.
Zac: Why? Cornwall.
Maximiliano: Okay. You got to work a little bit harder.
Zac: Cornwall. It's like the most southwest you can go.
Maximiliano: Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: Never been there, but Yeah.
Maximiliano: Oh, okay. Well,
Zac: been to Plymouth.
Maximiliano: Plymouth. That's South Deon.

Maximiliano: Yes.
Zac: Yes. And yes, I have.
Maximiliano: Um, yeah. Uh, studying at UEIE doing illustration and I'm in second year.
Zac: Second year. Okay.
Maximiliano: Uh, do you like it?
Zac: That's a no. Okay. Why Why do you dislike it? Why do you hate your career?
Maximiliano: There we go. That's the first uh beat for the editor.
Zac: No, I love what I'm doing. The course is awful, though.
Maximiliano: Why?
Zac: Because the I just haven't learned anything. Like they don't teach you anything. Basically, we'll like we'll come in start of the year, they'll give us like they'll do the module launch where they'll give us like three projects, all different, all due at the same time, and that'll be it. And then we go and we have to do it. And then we'll have like lectures in between. The lectures will be nothing to do with what they told us to do. So then we're like it's just like it's all up to you. And I procrastinate a lot. So I end up just like doing it all in the last week and then Yeah.
Maximiliano: Is that actually how it works?
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: What uni do you go to?
Zac: UI.
Maximiliano: Yui, you should be cancelled. Oh, Zack, if you would make this a little a little bit more romantic. Thank you very much. I always forget the thing about the camera.
Zac: You're an idiot. Okay. For uh everybody um he I do know him so that's why
Maximiliano: you do.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Stalker.
Zac: Yeah. A little bit.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: I just visit him in his place of work. That's what I do.
Maximiliano: Been stalking him. Just like smell the air that he has been in.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we'll go with that.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: Oh god. But your uni course is
Maximiliano: Yeah, pretty much. It's fine by me cuz I mean I don't really have to do much.
Zac: That's terrible because you have no skills whatsoever when you go into
Maximiliano: I have skills.
Zac: No, but like the uni hasn't given them. Do you
Maximiliano: I think it it could be a me problem whereas in I don't really go in that much.
Zac: Ah, okay.
Maximiliano: So it could be that I'm just missing the important stuff. But
Zac: I mean that's that's a big issue that I have with uni. Um
Maximiliano: okay I'm not this is not going to sound very pro popular but I think uh business should be a technical degree. um as well as well other other stuff. But they should be like as in
Zac: let's let's go and do the actual work, you know, let's do the accounting, let's do the art, let's do the project
Maximiliano: and it should be like hopefully one project a week. Yeah.
Zac: So you're like in constant fear
Maximiliano: basically of like okay that should be a test that's actually going out and like or like starting a business or helping a business rather than just
Zac: Yeah. whatever it is.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: I mean the thing is the problem with uh business is that
Maximiliano: the the business skill is
Zac: uh being a firefighter mostly. So think think it is business as a general thing is
Maximiliano: a building on fire.
Zac: Yeah. Okay.
Maximiliano: That is burning down and you know it's burning down and you you as the owner of the business or you as like the
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: like person in charge of the business
Zac: are constantly trying to like get the fires out, you know.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. No. Yeah. No, I get it. Um, so that's why I say it should be a technical degree because you should be learning how to do that all the time.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah.
Maximiliano: But in arts, it's a little bit different.
Zac: It's very different.
Maximiliano: But it's the same approach of doing, I would say.
Zac: Yes, it is.
Maximiliano: You should be doing all the time, right?
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No. Yeah. thing is with our course, one of the reasons I chose this course is because they said that they would help us like be able to set up a business or get to wherever we need to go for when we finish.
Maximiliano: Mhm.
Zac: Haven't done any of that. Like they said they were going to help us like be ready for when the course is done so we have something to go into.
Maximiliano: Okay.
Zac: No, haven't done anything towards that.
Maximiliano: They haven't or you haven't or
Zac: both? Both.
Maximiliano: They said they would help us do that.
Zac: Yeah, but help doesn't mean they'll do it for you, mate.
Maximiliano: Yeah, I know. I know. Nah. Yeah. Nah.
Zac: Yeah. Well, fair enough.
Maximiliano: It's fine. I have a year left. I'll figure it out then.
Zac: Oh my god.
Maximiliano: I would I would be terrified, mate. I would be terrified. No,
Zac: I'm just going to go just going to disappear again. Let's go get traveling again. Probably never come back.
Maximiliano: Sure. That sounds like a
Zac: Sounds perfect to me.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: I mean, I've I've learned not to judge what people want in life.
Maximiliano: Mainly because
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: I I know my type of thing in life is so narrow.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Like just
Zac: money.
Maximiliano: No, not really. But I don't I don't care about the money. It's it's interesting. It's it's just like a measure of success, I would say.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Maximiliano: At least for me
Zac: to like Yeah. see how well you're doing.
Maximiliano: But it's like beyond that.
Zac: It's like a It's a plus. It's a benefit of what you're doing.
Maximiliano: Yeah. I mean, I treat it I I don't treat it well. I give you I like every week that we get our paycheck, for example, I spend it all that day. that day
Zac: on on different stuff,
Maximiliano: food like
Zac: that's where you get so much as well.
Maximiliano: Huh?
Zac: That's why you get so much as well.
Maximiliano: Oh, yeah. But I distribute it. I distribute the So, for
Zac: examp.
Maximiliano: Ah, that's true. Yeah, because it is an expense anyway. At least for me,
Zac: because you're going to make money back off it.
Maximiliano: It It doesn't matter if I make the money back or not. Like, it's it's just the investment,
Zac: is it? Yeah. Well, it's a bill,
Maximiliano: so to say.
Zac: But yeah, so I' I've learned not to like um
Maximiliano: do that.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: And also because I got a lot of siblings that want very different lives.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Very different.
Zac: Yeah. I bet. Yeah.
Maximiliano: Are you doing the best out of your siblings? No, no. I mean it. What do you mean by best? Again, this comes to
Zac: Yeah. Uh, that's true.
Maximiliano: Am I closest? Am I the closest to my goals?
Zac: Absolutely not. I'm the farthest away from my goal.
Maximiliano: Really?
Zac: Yeah, for sure.
Maximiliano: That's surprising.
Zac: So, I feel like you're like the most on it person that I probably know. Like, to be honest, like
Maximiliano: I mean, I try to live the day for sure. uh try to maximize the day, but that's that's about it. But still, I'm I'm the farthest away.
Zac: Yeah, fair enough.
Maximiliano: Just got very driven family.
Zac: No, no. The thing is my siblings have like shorter goals, like smaller goals.
Maximiliano: One wants to like work for the UN, for example.
Zac: Okay.
Maximiliano: In the area of like
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Maximiliano: food or something.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. That
Maximiliano: Okay, fair. She's like a masters away from that.
Zac: So like
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: I mean she does her masters and then she ends up in the like that's that's a goal done.
Maximiliano: I need to go for like 60 years until I get my stuff.
Zac: What is your goals? Like what are you trying to go for?
Maximiliano: Uh one trillion.
Zac: Yeah. Uh managing one trillion.
Maximiliano: You think you could do it? It will be possible. I'm sure it will be possible.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Mainly because of technology.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah.
Maximiliano: And the reason why I want to do one trillion is because of a book called uh how to spend a trillion dollars, chapter 1.2. If anybody listening wants to
Zac: read what I want to what I want to do. Uh but yeah, it's basically just spend it in something.
Maximiliano: Okay, cool. Yeah.
Zac: What do you you want to do though?
Maximiliano: What do I want to do? Uh
Zac: cuz like traveling sounds great. Like it
Maximiliano: it's amazing, you know?
Zac: I think I don't really mind what I end up doing as long as I'm just like happy doing it, you know?
Maximiliano: Like I don't really have a set like job or anything I want to be doing.
Zac: No, no, no. I'm I'm not asking about that. I'm not asking about a job.
Maximiliano: Like mine is not a job, you know?
Zac: That's true. That's true. That's true. Uh I don't know. I just think I would want to have as many experiences as possible.
Maximiliano: Okay.
Zac: I want to experience everything.
Maximiliano: Oh, that sounds nice.
Zac: Yeah, very much.
Maximiliano: That would be Have you So, I feel that's that's where this podcast is going.
Zac: Uh mainly towards your experiences.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: Because you've done uh Yeah.
Maximiliano: almost 10 jobs in your 20.
Zac: Yeah,
Maximiliano: that's fair.
Zac: I don't think that doesn't sound like that many though.
Maximiliano: I mean, the thing is the diversity I would say
Zac: to be fair is it's like a they're not very they're not similar.
Maximiliano: They're not similar at all. So, well, there are a couple of course that are similar.
Zac: Which one?
Maximiliano: Let's start with that one actually.
Zac: Oh, the one I forgot.
Maximiliano: So, yeah. Tell me a bit a little bit about like uh your job s your CV. Give me run through your CV.
Zac: I'm going to mess it up. Okay. So, uh whole CV including like grades, everything.
Maximiliano: No, no, don't don't don't
Zac: the grades. No, you don't want to know the grades anyway. That wasn't very good. No. Um, job wise, first job was when I was 16. Domino's.
Maximiliano: Yes.
Zac: I was about to say it was awful, but it actually wasn't that bad. It was quite fun. It was me and like three of my best mates.
Maximiliano: Oh, okay.
Zac: All joined this little little dominoes in our little town. And so it was just pretty much us like running it. And it was great. We like
Maximiliano: it was we got paid 6 pounds an hour
Zac: because we were 16. And yeah, it was great. But we just used to take the piss. Like we learned to like know like spin the dough like thread it in the air like that. It was so fun. Um we used to if we got like hungry we'd like accidentally make like an extra pizza or something. Oh,
Maximiliano: we messed up. There's an extra pizza like cooked.
Zac: Oh, did I just have it? And the manager like yeah I mean it's going to waste anyway. Yeah. I remember once, you know, you could get those like 250 gram like pots of the like garlic mayo.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: Yeah. I downed one and throw up everywhere.
Maximiliano: Don't know why we were bored.
Zac: Yeah. No
Maximiliano: Oh god.
Zac: Anyway, uh next job after
Maximiliano: Did you like it though?
Zac: Did I like it?
Maximiliano: Yeah, it was quite fun. Did you learn how to do get pizza and stuff?
Zac: Yeah. Although I can't like recreate it because we used to get like the dough like shipped in and stuff. So like I don't know how they made the dough or anything.
Maximiliano: Oh.
Zac: So I didn't actually learn it. I just learned how to know like spread the dough out, put the sauce on, toppings. Done.
Maximiliano: Oh, first. Okay. Yeah. But at least you know how to
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. The best bit though was like
Maximiliano: getting it out the oven. Then you you got like you know the pizza rollers like where you cut it?
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Yeah. You like get out the oven, put it in the box, you like slide it off. I thought that was the funnest bit.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah. But yeah.
Zac: Did you Well, it has to be pretty fast, I'm guessing. In a dominac stressful. Yeah. Especially like Friday, Saturday.
Maximiliano: Oh.
Zac: Oh my god. Yeah, cuz it's from like 4:00 p.m. till like midnight.
Maximiliano: Mhm.
Zac: Constant like
Maximiliano: next pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza pizza. You to be fair you don't get sick of the pizza though. No,
Zac: like I thought I would, but
Maximiliano: Well, it's 16 in like 8.
Zac: I had pizza every day cuz at the end of every shift and I work like three times a week, they'd be like, "Do you want a pizza to take home?" Yes. Make a pizza, take it home. Had pizza like every day.
Maximiliano: Every day for how long?
Zac: I think it was like I don't know just under a year I would say.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: Okay. Guess until 17 basically.
Maximiliano: Yeah. And
Zac: sorry.
Maximiliano: Which then I then quit
Zac: cuz I hated it at that point.
Maximiliano: Did you? Why?
Zac: I think everyone else kind of left onto different jobs
Maximiliano: and then
Zac: new people came in.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Just wasn't the same at all.
Zac: Is it the same in every hospitality job?
Maximiliano: Yeah. No. Yeah. Yeah. It's like
Zac: people join like there's always like a mixture of people and like
Maximiliano: becomes like a little like group like you know everyone different dynamics. It's all good
Zac: and everybody is like doing the job perfectly.
Maximiliano: Exactly. And then know what to expect from people.
Zac: Yeah. And then one person leaves
Maximiliano: then people start dropping off.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Changes completely and it's just
Zac: Yeah. No, definitely.
Maximiliano: I do I do know what you mean though.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. Um, what do you reckon you learned? Like what's the valuable experience of working in a Domino's pizza till midnight?
Maximiliano: Uh, don't do it.
Zac: Don't do it.
Maximiliano: No. Pay was awful. Very stressful. People there are just kind of weird as well.
Zac: Yeah, of course. This you and your mates, mate. Oh,
Maximiliano: I meant the other people.
Zac: Oh, all right.
Maximiliano: But yeah. Yeah. Don't know. Yeah.
Zac: Okay.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Fair enough.
Zac: Yeah. And then you
Maximiliano: and then I went on to working at a holiday park
Zac: running activities for like the kids on who stayed on the park.
Maximiliano: So like
Zac: oh what do we do? Cricket. Um what those massive like Zor balls the like inflatable balls. You could like you could get inside and like go on the water. You know what I mean? No,
Maximiliano: I mean kind of, but yeah. Yeah. Okay. So, I used to do that. Uh canoeing. I can't remember what else we did. Uh we had like a whole like pool and water slide. So, we did like the flume and stuff as well. Lots of pool activities.
Zac: Okay.
Maximiliano: There were these things you could like hold on to under the water. You like press a button, it like pulls you through the water.
Zac: Oh, yeah.
Maximiliano: Yeah. They're sick. They're so cool.
Zac: They're so cool. Yeah. Yeah. that like
Maximiliano: my brother got that for a birthday or something like that.
Zac: Yeah,
Maximiliano: I remember having that. Oh my
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Th those were fun. Oh, we had a wipeout course as well which we used to like blow up and put on the pool.
Maximiliano: You know what Wiped Out is?
Zac: No.
Maximiliano: They used it was like a TV show where they like they had like the main thing was like the three red balls like floating above the water. They'd have to like try and run across them.
Zac: Oh yeah. Yeah.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah. We had like a mini like kids version of that. We blow up like inflatable and put it on the pool for the kids to like go. You might be there like spraying it with a hose and like have like music playing stuff like that. Yeah.
Zac: Did you have fun with Yeah.
Maximiliano: Also really when I was when I was younger me and all my mates basically we would all go to like so we were all at do days and we'd all move to this job and then the next job like we all did it together.
Zac: So it was just so fun like cuz yeah we all got bored pretty quick with doing the same thing every day like for work.
Maximiliano: So yeah. So we just when someone would move on, they'd find a cool job, we'd be like, "Yeah, yeah, let's go there." So yes, we all came to this place, started doing that
Zac: um which was really fun. Yeah. Which was good. I did that for like two years, I think.
Maximiliano: Um I remember once we were doing cricket outside with the kids and then the kids were like, "Oh, you have a go. You have a go." So I got up with the bat and this kid who's like stood pretty much where you are
Zac: throws the ball and I I go to whack it as hard as I can to like just like you try to impress him.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: Give it everything. Hits the kid straight in the face. You literally goes like falls back and then starts like crying. The mom comes over and I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Oh, you know what else? The first day ever on that job, I was working at the pool. I was like just stood by the flume like the slide into the pool being like, "Okay, yeah, one at a time. Yeah, you go up, you wait. You go up, you wait." These two um adults with Down syndrome came up
Maximiliano: um and they were like holding her. Why you laughing?
Zac: Because this is going I don't know. I don't know what's going.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: Um anyway, it's not funny. They came up. It's not It's not funny, mate. Go on. They came up.
Maximiliano: Why are you laughing, mate?
Zac: Cuz you're laughing.
Maximiliano: I'm not.
Zac: Came up holding hands.
Maximiliano: And I'm like, "Hi guys, it's one at a time, I'm afraid." And they're like, "Can we go up together?" And I'm like, "No, I'm afraid it's one at a time." They both look at me and they both go They both just start crying like hysterically and I'm just like like what do I do? like what do I do in that situation? I felt so bad.
Zac: This is a grown man as well. Yeah. Well, but well down syndrome as well, but
Maximiliano: yeah. I'm like, what do I do? And then the person who's there obviously with them like looking after them came over and was like, I'm so sorry. Like took them away. And I was like, I'm so sorry. Like it's one at a time. That's all I said. And she's like, it's okay. It's okay. I was like, I felt so bad though. Like what you meant to do in that situation? Like
Zac: first day as well. I was like, "Ah,
Maximiliano: I know." Well, there's been I feel I feel there to every job there is like one moment in particular where it's like, "Oh,
Zac: there were so many moments like that at this job, though."
Maximiliano: Is this a pool or a holiday party?
Zac: It's Yeah,
Maximiliano: it's in which is kind of like quite a chavy area. I would say
Zac: it's kind of like going to like Blackpool on holiday. It's kind of similar vibe to that or like Milton Keen.
Maximiliano: Okay.
Zac: I remember like kids in the pool. The pool was like here, right?
Maximiliano: Toilets were here like right next to it.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Kids would get out
Zac: on the side and then get back in the pool. It just carry on like nothing had happened. And you'd be there watching like what the
Maximiliano: And the the parents are in the pool like, "Yeah, come on. What are you doing? Just letting your kid poo on the side of the pool." The parents just
Zac: they don't care. Yeah. It's like Yeah. We once had this really old lady come in like in a wheelchair like she'd like get up like a little bit could walk a little bit and when she came early like 10 minutes before the pool opened so she like sat on the chair whilst we were setting stuff up. We opened the pool she got up got helped into the pool. We realized there was a on the chair so she just herself sat on the chair and then and then just she got in the pool and she was like like walking around the edge like holding on to the side there's a little like trail like brown in the water like following her around. Oh, and when she was getting into the pool, like walking down the steps, the guy who was helping her saw that she had like on her ass and then like got the water and like splash it like wiped it off in the pool. It was horrible. I remember me and my mates, we all did like rock paper scissors on who had to like pick the chair up and like take it outside and we just left outside.
Maximiliano: Yeah, that's soing disgusting.
Zac: Yeah,
Maximiliano: it was a great job though cuz like in the summer, well, it was only open during the summer. It's like a summer job
Zac: um because it's a holiday park, but in the summer like Yeah. every now and again it' be like weดิน have like a really quiet day where no one would come for any of the activities. So, we'd like just sit there eating like burgers from the the truck side. Um, no, eating ice cream. Like playing badminton or something outside just like
Maximiliano: Oh, we also got to drive like buggies around
Zac: as well. The whole park is quite a big park to like get to the different areas and stuff.
Maximiliano: It was fun.
Zac: We also used to do um Segways, you know, like the things with the handles and you stand on like with just the two wheels.
Maximiliano: Oh,
Zac: yeah. Those we used to do them as well. That was so fun.
Maximiliano: I've never been in in one. I really want to.
Zac: That's so fun. You could like Bluetooth your phone to and it plays music out of them as well,
Maximiliano: actually.
Zac: Yeah. So, that was so fun. That was really good. Yeah. Yeah. We used to do everything like basketball as well. But yeah, that was really good. So I did that for two summers. Um in between the two summers when it was Christmas cuz obviously it was shut so I had no work.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: I went to work at Tesco.
Maximiliano: Woo. Okay. Tesco.
Zac: But yeah, for as a Christmas
Maximiliano: Oh, no. No.
Zac: Yeah. Night shift. Night shifts. Yeah.
Maximiliano: So
Zac: there always Yeah. the night shifters.
Maximiliano: Yeah. But so it was a it was a big Tesco. So it's like two floors massive
Zac: back where I live. Um
Maximiliano: just so you know Tesco's is like uh what's little uh Aldi Asa
Zac: Yeah. So it's just a big supermarket.
Maximiliano: There we go. Thank you very much.
Zac: It's just this there's people watching that are not from the UK.
Maximiliano: Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Cool.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: It's just to make sure people actually understand where
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. So, I used to do So, I went and I applied for the overnight shifts cuz they were like £15 an hour as opposed to like nine.
Maximiliano: So, I was like, "Yeah." And I didn't mind working overnight
Zac: as a 17 year old as well.
Maximiliano: Yeah. So, I was doing that. Um, yeah. And I went in and after a few shifts,
Zac: good money,
Maximiliano: I realized I was the only person who ever worked upstairs overnight. Like, I had the whole upstairs to myself. So the first like week I spent like the first like two shifts maybe I actually did some work, you know, restocking the shelves all night and then I was like, what am I doing? Like there's no one here making sure I'm doing this.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: And obviously they're not going to watch back the cameras because they don't do that every time. Like they'll only watch back the cameras if something happens.
Zac: So then I used to like we used to have so one of the big aisles upstairs was the toy aisle. So I used to just spend like hours like playing with the toys. And we also had the like big like crates where you could like wheel stock around the floor. I used to like run and like jump on it and just like slide around the floor on it. I was so bored. Had my AirPods in. I was just like having a great time. And then after like two weeks, it got to the point where I realized like I could come in. And I had this great idea where I was like, "No one is up here with me. I have my own break room upstairs to myself. There's no managers making sure I'm doing work." So I started coming in, clocking in, setting an alarm for when I five minutes before I had I knew I had to leave to clock out and go home again. And I would go to the break room sofa and just sleep for the entire shift. So I would sleep for so I would clock in, sleep for eight hours, get paid £15 an hour to do it and then leave, clock out and go home. So I just got paid to sleep, which is great. And then I found out at the right at the very end that the ladies in the morning who came in were all above 70 who all had to then do all the work that I didn't do. And I felt quite bad about that.
Maximiliano: I know. which is kind of bad, but they never said anything to me because I would see them in the morning. I'd be like, "Hey, hi Jackie." Blah, blah, blah. As I'm leaving, they go, "Oh, hi Zach. How are you?" and stuff.
Zac: They probably loved you anyway.
Maximiliano: Yeah. I mean, yeah. Yeah. Or you

Maximiliano: goodlooking 17year-old. Somebody's watching the podcast from YouTube.
Zac: That's a bit weird actually.
Maximiliano: What?
Zac: Good-looking 17-year-old.
Maximiliano: Oh, that's crazy.
Zac: That's It's kind of crazy.
Maximiliano: Yeah, it's actually crazy. But I mean, you're good-looking and I can

But yeah, because obviously it was a temp job, so I was only there for like two months over Christmas and then I was due to leave and then I got called in like to the manager's office like before I was leaving and they're like, "Sit down." I was like, "Oh, they've like they've know they know that I haven't been doing anything for them."
Maximiliano: And they sat down. They're like, "So, we know your your like your contract's come to an end and you're leaving. We think you've been doing such a great job. We'd like you to stay on." And I was like, "What the what?" I was like, "You know what? No, actually, I'm going to go because I was so bored and my the it was coming to summer again, so the holiday park was opening again." So, I had that job.
Zac: It was £15 an hour for sleeping, mate. I would have done both jobs. No, but it was just so boring and it was just I couldn't sleep in I didn't sleep in my own bed.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: For like two months.
Maximiliano: Oh,
Zac: like you know
Maximiliano: it was a bit long but yeah. So then
Zac: for a bit I did like night shifts. I did it for I think two weeks
Maximiliano: where
Zac: I did um how do you call it? Um it's not like guarding but like
Maximiliano: No. the Queen's Guard.
Zac: Yeah. No. Uh how is it called? Uh Queen I used to do I used to be like the How do you call the person who's like in front of a building just like waiting there and like receiving the letters and packages and stuff like that.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Dorman. There we go.
Zac: Okay. The thing is you call them guardas but I wouldn't
Maximiliano: it wouldn't be that anyway. So
Zac: yeah. So I was a dorman in a school in Chile
Maximiliano: in my old school actually.
Zac: Okay. that I didn't graduate with in but

Zac: yeah I did that for a couple a couple times
Maximiliano: great pay and so on and I used to read all the time
Zac: and that's how I get actually good in German

Maximiliano: it doesn't matter when you start reading matters that you do I think I'm reading a book now and it's the first book I've read in like five years, I think.

Maximiliano: Uh, it's called Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Zac: Oh, first. Okay.
Maximiliano: It's about a journalist in going to Las Vegas to do a story. He just does a lot of drugs with his bodyguard and just it's just kind of Yeah. crazy. But yeah,
Zac: it's good though. I find it quite difficult to read though because I like I'll read a page and I'll have no idea what I've just read. Like none of it goes in. I'm like I'm reading it but I'm not
Maximiliano: reading it.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: I'm like saying it in my head but it's not
Zac: I have no idea.
Maximiliano: I feel that the best way to so there's two ways to of reading I would say.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: One is the way of like just like absorbing the knowledge
Zac: or absorbing the content
Maximiliano: which where you have to think
Zac: to basically battle your idea of what where you're at, you know.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: With whatever you're learning
Maximiliano: from the book.
Zac: And the other way would be to experience. It's like imagining,
Maximiliano: you know, when you remember like this this sort of stuff. Yes,
Zac: the same should is the it's like you should do the same but not towards uh like remembering something but towards of what you're reading.
Maximiliano: Okay.
Zac: So you just basically imagine this whole new world and you just like
Maximiliano: learn try to see how the characters look and so on.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Maximiliano: So you're like experiencing the full the fullness of the book.
Zac: Yeah. Definitely.
Maximiliano: Those are in in novels but I don't
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It it gets it gets like harder, I would say.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Do that.
Zac: I've discovered
Maximiliano: I could read like I can concentrate a lot better if I've got music playing in the background.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Because it distracts like a different part of my brain than I can focus this part of the brain on the book.
Zac: Otherwise, I just get distracted by any little thing.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: Like I don't know, just everything. Yeah.
Maximiliano: I mean, I know I know this is not great and this is not legal to do, but I used to smoke weed, drink a coffee, and start reading. Yeah.
Zac: No idea why that worked, but it started working and now I read it all the time.
Maximiliano: Fair enough. You still still do that every time or not?
Zac: No, no, no, no. Now I don't smoke. No, no,
Maximiliano: good. It's bad.
Zac: Not for 25 year olds, so I'm one one year away. But anyways,
Maximiliano: yeah. Yeah.
Zac: Um but yeah, well, I was a dorman and this um I tried it for two weeks in Germany.
Maximiliano: Okay. dodgy work of course
Zac: because I didn't have the the visa to to work.
Maximiliano: Couldn't work legally. Yeah.
Zac: Yeah. But yeah, I just I just didn't enjoy it mainly because I was watching just on my phone and that and then that was it.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: Uh and then I just moved into the kitchen.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: Anyway, so you did this uh
Maximiliano: Yes.
Zac: to So you did Okay. Domino's, then that thing for activities for kids, then
Maximiliano: uh
Zac: Tesco
Maximiliano: Tesco activities for kids.
Zac: The second time when I went back to the activities for kids, I actually got my NPLQ, which is a
Maximiliano: what the hell
Zac: lifeguarding certificate. So you
Maximiliano: So I started lifeguarding there as well at the pool for like extra shifts.
Zac: Okay.
Maximiliano: Which is all right. I can't lie. It was really bad. I'd like sit there cuz it was so hot in there. It was like it had to be like 35°
Zac: in there. So, it's like so humid in the pool. So, I'd like sit there like my obviously yellow top, red shorts on like the lifeguard chair.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: Sunglasses on.
Maximiliano: I remember once I was so tired and like hung over. So, I was there and I fell asleep on the chair whilst lifeguarding. But I had sunglasses on so no one knew.
Zac: Oh my god.
Maximiliano: Imagine how bad that is. If like if a kid started drowning,
Zac: I would have been in jail.
Maximiliano: Yeah. God, that's so bad.
Zac: Yeah,
Maximiliano: I'm I'm sure most lifeguards do that though.
Zac: I'd hope not. I mean
Maximiliano: I mean I really hope not. But yeah,
Zac: but I mean if if they are 17, I expect them to do that. So I wouldn't
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah. I mean Yeah. So bad. Yeah.
Zac: Uh but yeah. Um and then you did some party work. Yeah. Yes. Uh yeah. And then
Maximiliano: I guess I I don't know. I don't know. I'm just reading what you told me before.
Zac: I finished college. Um and I decided I was going to take a year out before coming to uni.
Maximiliano: Um so I did a bit of patio work with my dad
Zac: just for like some extra money for like
Maximiliano: What do your parents do?
Zac: My dad is a teacher, secondary school teacher and college it's like mixed. It's like secondary school and college in one building.
Maximiliano: Okay, that's good.
Zac: Um, he teaches
Maximiliano: Chile is the same.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. He teaches religious studies to secondary school and as for the A levels, he does criminology and psychology.
Maximiliano: I feel that's so like he has to be so exciting to talk to.
Zac: He Yeah, he knows everything about everything.
Maximiliano: Like Yeah, he knows. Yes.
Zac: I'm sure you hated him at some point
Maximiliano: because
Zac: only if we're doing like a general knowledge quiz
Maximiliano: cuz I will always lose
Zac: or if I'm playing him at chess.
Maximiliano: Oh,
Zac: also always lose.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: But you know, but yeah, he's Yeah.
Maximiliano: Yeah. He knows everything.

Zac: Um and then my mom does uh teaches art at secondary school.
Maximiliano: She's a head of art. So she's Yeah. Very creative.

Maximiliano: To be fair, my whole family is very musical, though.
Zac: My mom plays the flute, piano, and she's learning the saxophone at the moment.
Maximiliano: How old is she?
Zac: She is 60 now.
Maximiliano: She's 60 and she's learning how
Zac: she's just joined like a band where she's playing the saxophone.
Maximiliano: Oh my god. I think I think I know where you get this thing of like trying new things.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Zac: Yeah. Yeah. I slide it back.
Maximiliano: Um, what was I saying? Side. Yeah, she like we have a dog, Black Lab. She like follows him around the house playing it and he like like runs away like howling. Anyway, uh my dad plays guitar.

Maximiliano: My brother also plays guitar and piano and he's doing music full-time in college at the moment.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Very good. I remember my family trying to like make us play something.
Zac: Really? Well, like learn an instrument.
Maximiliano: Yeah, learn an instrument. I was terrible at music. I I still am.
Zac: I The thing is I I do have in my opinion I have good taste in music.
Maximiliano: I'm sure in everyone's opinion they have good taste.
Zac: Yeah, I'm sure. No, there's some dodgy ones. You know, everybody that likes likes punk, for example, they have no music taste.
Maximiliano: Yeah, but to them Yeah. Yeah,
Zac: they have good music too.
Maximiliano: Still no. Uh anyways,
Zac: but
Maximiliano: no no but um so yeah, like all my siblings know an instrument. My dad used to play uh piano and and guitar.
Zac: I don't know what my mom did though. I I don't think she actually played any instruments. Not that I know for
Maximiliano: Yeah. Um but yeah, I tried they tried to put me on piano
Zac: really. I was a lot of things. I was an awful kid.
Maximiliano: I played piano and guitar.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: From like when I was four till now.
Zac: Piano and then bass for a couple
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: I asked for a bass mainly because of book that I read
Maximiliano: where there was this teenager who was like cool and he played bass.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Bass is quite cool. I think it's quite an underrated instrument, but it is very cool. Especially slap bass. Like
Maximiliano: I've done I've done a couple concerts though. Really? You played?
Zac: Really? So have I. I used to be in a band before uni.
Maximiliano: No, I was never in a band. I was never properly in a band.
Zac: Solo bass player.
Maximiliano: No, it's just Well, um they needed uh somebody cuz we used to do Olympics
Zac: like in my school.
Maximiliano: Okay. And one of one of the schools uh we uh they took a week and they did like uh
Zac: like a Olympics uh of every course against every other course.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: Um in sports, arts, performing arts and so on so forth.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: And like many tests and stuff like that. So yeah, we did like one week of all that and I well I did like a concert there uh presented one or two songs.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: And now recently uh year and a half ago when I uh got out of the foundation year that I did in Germany
Maximiliano: there I did uh two concerts.
Zac: Six songs.
Maximiliano: Six songs.
Zac: That's sick. Yeah. No, I used to be in a band before uni and we did like concerts around. I did some in Bristol here.
Maximiliano: Do you know Mr. Wolves?
Zac: No.
Maximiliano: Oh, it's like a It's like a funk soul kind of club in town,
Zac: I think.
Maximiliano: But we did a Yeah, it's really good actually. It's quite fun. Yeah, we did a little concert there. Yeah, we were on Spotify actually.
Zac: I'm not in the band anymore obviously cuz I left
Maximiliano: Oh, but you're actually good. Okay.
Zac: Yeah, we were pretty good. I'd say I'd say pretty good. Yeah.
Maximiliano: It just put me there to fill the hole, you know.
Zac: Yeah. Yeah. Oh, no. Yeah. No, we were all right. Um, yeah. Yeah, that was good.
Maximiliano: Okay.
Zac: Yeah.

Zac: oh, yeah, the patios.

Zac: But how did you how did you end up uh doing practice with your dad like that?
Maximiliano: Um,
Zac: no. just for like neighbors and stuff because like my dad used to do it when he was a kid
Maximiliano: like with his dad
Zac: doing like like you know mixing the cement, putting the tiles out, laying the patio, doing a bit of little walls around for people. So we did that like a few times for like our neighbors. I helped do our own garden as well.
Maximiliano: But yeah, so we did that just for some extra money and then I got a job in a cocktail bar
Zac: like
Maximiliano: on the beach outside. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Before the cocktail bar, I want to know how it was to work with your dad.
Zac: Uh,
Maximiliano: because it feels like like every time you've talked about your family,
Zac: I feel you have so much appreciation of them.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: So, it's like I mean for you it's of course, but it's like it's very interesting.
Maximiliano: So, how was it to work with your dad?
Zac: Uh, it was good. My brother helped out as well. Obviously, he's four years below me, so he didn't really help out much, but

Zac: No, yeah, it was fine. I'd be mixing the cement in the corner,
Maximiliano: you know, you get the the powder, put the water in, make a little volcano, you know, mixing it, shovel,

Maximiliano: So, but yeah, it was fine. It was fun.
Zac: Was there a lot of screaming?
Maximiliano: No. No. Like, we all worked like well together. No arguing or anything. No. Yeah. No, it was fine.
Zac: Oh my god. My family works completely different.
Maximiliano: It's a lot of like arguing. Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: Every time I've worked with my family, we end up screaming at each other.
Maximiliano: Really?
Zac: Every time. Yeah.
Maximiliano: We still do the job and we do a good job.

Zac: But we end up screaming like things. We're Latin American as well. So like
Maximiliano: like part of the

Zac: So, we do end up arguing all the time.

Zac: it's like part of I don't know, part of our nature.

Zac: I would like to be a little bit more chilled, but I'm not.

Zac: That is what it is.
Maximiliano: Yeah. We'd always like find like a little corner that's like unseen in the patio, like cover our initials into the cement.
Zac: Yeah. as well. Yeah. No, my dad's very like hands-on. Like if we ever need like a shelf or like a new cabinet for the house or something, he'll just build it.
Maximiliano: And like he's built our shed in the garden and we have a big summer house at the end as well with like a fire pit which he's all built as well.
Zac: That's so nice.
Maximiliano: Which is really cool. Yeah. A lot cheaper.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: That for sure.
Maximiliano: No, but yeah. No, very good.
Zac: And then you went to cocktail bars.
Maximiliano: Yes. Um, so yeah, this was my my year out. I decided I wanted to to go explore, go a bit traveling.
Zac: So I
Maximiliano: Okay.
Zac: So that's the idea behind it.
Maximiliano: Yeah. So I needed know I needed money. And then I found this cocktail bar like in this outside bar by the beach.
Zac: Really nice. Run by these two Portuguese guys. Both called Dio.
Maximiliano: What?
Zac: Both called Dio.
Maximiliano: Dio. No.
Zac: Yeah. Like Diego, but Dio with an O.
Maximiliano: What the hell?
Zac: What I used to call it. Anyway, yeah. Um,
Maximiliano: really nice. Um, it was like proper cocktail bar. Have you seen the film Cocktail with Tom Cruz?
Zac: No. Anyway, it's like they're proper like flipping it about like shaking like everything like learning all the tricks. I learned just to spin everything.
Maximiliano: I feel you could be very good at
Zac: the same. Yeah. So, they taught me that. So, I was like doing all of that.
Maximiliano: It was great. You get all of the like middle-aged women coming up and you're there like in your little like linen shirt.
Zac: I knocked the mic off. Please apologize to our producer.
Maximiliano: I'm sorry. Is it okay? Fine. Cool.
Zac: Got too excited about the middle-aged woman.
Maximiliano: Yeah. No, it's just a middle-aged woman, you know.
Zac: Yeah. Then they come up, you're in your linen shirt, you know,
Maximiliano: like a thing, though. But okay. Anyway,
Zac: you know, they order their drinks, you know, you start flipping, they like video you, they're like, "Oh, wow."
Maximiliano: Um, yeah. I remember once we used to do like a lot of parties where people would like hire it out.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: And things. Um, we once had this like I don't know it was like 40th birthday party or something. We had like all the women at the bar in a crowd and there's like a window behind us as well which was open because it was hot. All right.
Zac: And then they'd be like round the back like sticking their arms in like trying to grab us and like that.
Maximiliano: Yeah. And we'd be like there making the cocktails like doing it and I have a snake tattoo on my arm
Zac: and then they'd all be like, "Oh, I like your snake." And the others would be like, "Oh, which one?" Mhm.
Maximiliano: Like
Zac: turn like 12, like 2 years old to like Yeah. like teenagers or they're like so flirty and you just like have to flirt back as well to get the tips.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: It's a must though. It's a must. Okay.
Zac: And then
Maximiliano: every every person who has worked in the bar before,
Zac: I know
Maximiliano: they they know where it is. They know where it is. when the middle-aged group of middle-aged women come up to the bar and you know they're like on a night out or something like IDs please ladies and they're like stop it oh my god it's so bad
Zac: they love it but yeah that that was really fun and then the two guys theos
Maximiliano: they're so crazy
Zac: because they're Portuguese so they run a cocktail bar back in Portugal as well they were like
Maximiliano: do you want to come back with us to Portugal for a and we'll train you out there cocktails properly all paid for and I was like
Zac: that's crazy.
Maximiliano: Yes. And this was also working with the same
Zac: same team. Yeah. So
Maximiliano: Oh, wait. Same business.
Zac: Same best friends every job when I was younger.
Maximiliano: Oh, that's so good.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Oh my Okay, that's so nice.
Zac: So, yeah. So me and my best mates got a free holiday to Portugal
Maximiliano: where we'd work like five days a week
Zac: for like eight hours a day doing cocktail training in Portugal on a beach
Maximiliano: and then we just got to live it up out there which was amazing.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Yeah. So cool. And then
Zac: God that's so like walk me through a day like in Portugal like what would you
Maximiliano: So we had like nice hotel our rooms all next to each other. had like a gym. Had like
Zac: I I can just imagine a lad's holiday but like working a couple hours a day.
Maximiliano: Yeah, it was great. The hotel had like a pool and a gym.
Zac: Oh,
Maximiliano: and we'd like Yeah. So, we go down the bar was like a 20-minute walk away.
Zac: We'd go turn show up at like 11:00 in the morning, you know, go through like basically just work there. Like they teach us a little bit every now and again. Also, every time we made a cocktail,
Maximiliano: before we could give it to the customer, we had to try it.
Zac: You know, like you get a straw, take it out.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah. So, they told us we could drink on shift,
Zac: so we would just get so drunk
Maximiliano: on shift. I don't speak a word of Portuguese,
Zac: by the way.
Maximiliano: Some people don't speak any English.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: And I was just like
Zac: drunk. They're drugged. Just like ah just making noises at each other. They're just like point at a drink. I make it. Give it to them. Done.
Maximiliano: Yeah.
Zac: It was great though. Very good fun.
Maximiliano: But yeah,
Zac: I've been there. Been there. Been there.
Maximiliano: Yeah. So fun. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, that was really good.
Zac: And then came back. I did that for like 3 months. Uh in between that I went snowboarding
Maximiliano: in Switzerland

Maximiliano: just casually. Yeah.
Zac: Yeah. I mean, I had some money and I was like, I can't wait. I'm gonna go now. Um but yeah, um I snowboard quite regularly. I haven't in like two years now because of uni and I don't have any money, but I used to
Maximiliano: loved it.
Zac: Um so I was like, "Ah, I'm going to go." So me and my weight went.
Maximiliano: Um came back, worked for like another monthish.
Zac: You look like you surf as well.
Maximiliano: I do surf.
Zac: Yeah.
Maximiliano: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, South Dublin.
Zac: Yeah. Kind of.
Maximiliano: I mean, it's it's it's a must. It's a must. It's kind of
Zac: I want to move then to South Deon. I really want to move to Plymouth if I'm really honest.
Maximiliano: Plymouth Plymouth's kind of horrible I think.

Maximiliano: And it's just kind of like dirty.

Maximiliano: the ones that have a life going for them are the ones that don't have anything going for them basically dam you put it like that
Zac: well I'm in that category so I can say it

Zac: we have more fun though

Zac: thing is I I will need to move to London at some point mainly because of the scale what I want to do side of it. Yeah.

Zac: live in London for 5 days and then
Maximiliano: or six probably and then move back to wherever.
