Maximiliano: Hello guys, welcome back to Beyond the Horizon podcast, the podcast where you expand your horizons of knowledge. Today, it's just me, Massimiliano Floris, your host, responding to a couple of questions once again. This podcast is about the mentality of a businessman and an entrepreneur. Hopefully, you guys find this helpful. Maximiliano: Uh this comes from my dad, actually. He always said I was different in some way. I think he saw the the spirit the unrested spirit uh that I had, and he did tell me that quite often. Now that I think about it, I think most people are okay with a 9-5, and I think that's good because it's good for them. Most people are not looking for extra stress. I think there are a few people that do want that, do want the position, and not only want it, but also are willing to take the the pain of of being an entrepreneur, and not only that, but also being a leader of an organization where everything is counting on you. But, yes, um basically, of almost my entire life, I knew I was different, and I've played my cards trying to be the same for a big part of my life, but deep inside, I knew that I wasn't like the rest of them. Maximiliano: I wouldn't know. I think I haven't won that big, so I'm not the one to to talk about proper achievement. Like I'm I'm not an Olympian. I haven't sold a business for like millions. I've I've had great success on on small things, but beyond that, not not really much. So, I I wouldn't know. Moving of country on COVID. I moved to Germany and I've never been back since to Latin America. It looked completely dumb. It was on the middle of COVID or like a year in. I was going to another country with different language, trying to study there in another language as well. It was a pretty dumb It was a pretty dumb thing to do. Uh now that I think about it. So, I was judged quite hard by my friends. Not judged, but they thought it was a dumb decision. And I think now I earn I think four times as much as a friend that used to that I used to go to school with, which is great, but it makes me really sad. Hopefully soon if the deal that I'm working on right now goes through, I'll be earning like, I don't know, 20 times. Maximiliano: Yeah, all the time. I think everybody feels the pressure of doing so. I think the difference in character comes from not minding that pressure. I go to church quite a lot and as you can tell, I have a pretty strong personality. In church, cuz I have this strong personality, I go to a Baptist church and I think most of the most of the people going there are pretty have pretty strong beliefs about Christ, what Christian life should look like. One of my best friends is I think he just did his doctorate degree in philosophy. So, I have a pretty strong tendency towards philosophy and actually through philosophy I met God. This issue that I have about what current people think, what people that live today think what Christian life should look like, I think that is the pressure that I go in every Sunday, I would say. I still show up cuz I'm there for the information, for the reading of the Bible and not for the people. There's people that I love that that I love there. They're incredible people, but most of them are pretty judgmental on how they think you should live your life. So, feeling the pressure is okay. Now, you should develop a sense of self strong enough to resist another way of life that you don't think is good. In my case, I think life should be towards action, not towards saying of action. Not not towards words, but towards the actual thing that you want to do. It's not nice to talk about sports, it's nice to play sports.

Maximiliano: I will say two. Maybe I'll add a third one later, but the two most important ones in my opinion as a man, okay, as a man and a Latin American man in particular. One is drugs. Chile is one of the most is one of the countries that smokes more weed. They did a study and about 64% of the population smokes or smoked regularly back then before COVID. So, there is this big culture about smoking and particularly weed and I was part of it. I followed along. It was normalized because all of my friends smoked. Not only that, but like all of my friends' friends smoked. Like I I did not knew anybody who who didn't smoke or didn't smoke once in a while, but beyond that like all of my group of friends were like uh a very bad influence on me and on themselves. And pushing back on that, well, I didn't push back on that. I actually switched countries to do that. So I couldn't do it on my on my own. So I decided, you know what? One of the main reasons why I left Chile so early um and so abruptly was to stop smoking weed cuz I thought it was like my life was going nowhere. Also sex actually. I think as a Chilean man, I was encouraged by the culture that I was in to basically sleep around. And maybe even make sex a focus point on my life. And I think that's completely wrong. Um not in an ethical way. I wouldn't know how to to approach that. But from a focus point, specifically on us men, I think it's a bad idea, man. If you would focus your whole sexual energy into achieving your goals, I think the life that you currently live would improve so much in so many aspects. I firstly tried it out for I think it was like a month where I just said, "Okay, you know what? I'm not going to pursue anything sexual. Just pursue it." I'll I'll probably get the thoughts and so on, but I won't pursue it. And then I started to do it for a month and then for 3 months. And well, now I'm and it's great. Also your relationships with women are completely different cuz you're not thinking about them or you're not thinking to impress them. You are looking at them and being completely genuine and saying like, "Hey, you know what? This is this what you will get if you would go on a date." So, it's it's pretty nice.

Maximiliano: I couldn't care less about fear of judgment if I'm really honest. I think that came from me being bullied as a child. I think that truly gave me a hard skin on on on that. Also, I had a very mean sister. Thanks to you, by the way. If I'm really honest, that's actually a very good development. It gives you a very nice development on your characteristics. But, about fear in general, fairly recently, I decided to get counsel from people that I really love. They gave me their counsel from fear, not from knowledge. So much that it made me anxious on taking the decision. Now, I have decided to take the the hard decision anyway. No, not because they are wrong, but because I am the person that despite the fear, I do what's right anyway. And now, keep betting on myself. They were giving me a counsel on not betting on myself because of this, this, and this reason and like all of these variables that could happen and so on. You got to find it within yourself to be that person that goes beyond that, beyond their feelings and do what you think is right, not only for you, but for your family and your community.

Maximiliano: Okay, I don't think myself as a very successful person. I am yet to achieve success in the areas that I want. But where I have found success, I think it is mainly because of character. I think as the question stated is more about the decision of going against the crowd and being willing to back me up no matter what. Betting on myself that I could learn German. Betting on myself that I could move to Bristol without any job security and find a job within 10 days. Maximiliano: So, I don't think of myself as a very intelligent person. Actually, I struggled quite a bit in school. I don't know if it was because of intelligence or also because I'm terrible at studying and I'm terrible at not doing what I dislike. But I don't think I'm particularly intelligent. I just have the character. I never thought I would do I would ever do a tax return. Never thought I would follow the law. I never thought I was going to end up living in England. I always knew deep inside that that I was going to be a a leader in some weird way. But I never thought I was going to organize people like I do. I thought I was going to be a teacher if I'm really honest. So, my life turned into a very different direction, but I'm very proud of what I do and I'm very thankful of the life experiences that I've had, good and bad, because that has led me here. Maximiliano: Guys, thank you very much for listening once again to an yet another episode of Beyond the Horizon podcast. So, please follow us on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Spotify as well.
